How does herbal medicine differ from conventional medicine ?

Herbal medicine focuses on whole-plant remedies and aims to support the body’s natural healing processes, while conventional medicine often uses synthetic drugs targeting specific symptoms or conditions. 

Can I take herbs alongside prescription medicines ?

In most cases yes.  Some herbs may interact with medications such as blood thinners, antidepressants, or diabetes drugs. I ask the patient to bring along all their medication so the correct herbs can be selected.

Will I need to change my diet or lifestyle ?

Usually yes. Herbal medicine works best when combined with lifestyle changes, balanced nutrition, stress management, sleep, and exercise 

How are herbal medicines prepared?

Usually teas, tinctures, capsules, tablets, creams, syrups, and powders. 

What is a tincture ?

A tincture is a concentrated liquid extract of herbs, usually made with alcohol and water.

Do I need to inform my GP that I am having herbal treatment ?

Generally no, but if you have an ongoing condition the GP is treating you may need to let them know. 

Are herbal medicines safe ?

When prescribed by a qualified practitioner, herbal medicines are safe. Some herbs may not be suitable for certain medical conditions, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

How many treatments will I need ?

This depends on your health condition and how long it has been present. Some people notice improvement quickly, while chronic conditions may require ongoing support for several months.
